A New Story Is Taking Shape
Wondering why you're receiving this newsletter? It's likely you signed up to receive a free book and access to exclusive book promotions and fascinating stories about historical warriors.
Dear Readers,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and in good spirits. As a writer, there is nothing more fulfilling than sharing stories with readers like you. That's why I am excited to update you on the progress of my latest historical warrior fantasy novel, featuring the fierce and skilled warrior Rayl.
In this story, Rayl rises from a state of brokenness to protect her young queen from savage warriors who have overrun their tribe. With renewed cunning and valor, Rayl escorts her queen to safety and out of the clutches of their deadly pursuers. Together, they must traverse treacherous lands filled with danger and peril, bound for the young queen’s home tribe, where her brother, Galti Khan, holds sway.
As I write this novel, I am drawing inspiration from medieval history and epic fantasy, creating a vivid and immersive world filled with intricate political systems and unique customs. Countless hours are spent researching and crafting every detail of this world, from the distinctive traditions of each tribe to the complex political landscape.
The characters are just as important as the world they inhabit. Rayl is a powerful warrior with a deep sense of honor, struggling to protect her charge while battling her own personal demons. She is joined by a diverse and complex cast of characters, each with their own motivations and struggles.
I know that you, as a reader, appreciate stories that transport you to another time and place, and I believe that this novel will do just that. I want you to feel like you are right there alongside Rayl and her companions as they fight for survival and face unimaginable challenges.
As with any true fantasy novel, epic battle scenes are a key component. Drawing on my own family’s experiences in martial arts, I endeavor to capture the raw intensity and brutal reality of hand-to-hand combat.
I am working hard to have the book ready for publication by the end of the year. In the meantime, I want to thank you for your continued support and for being the reason I write. I will be sharing updates on my social media accounts, including teasers and sneak peeks at the story and characters, so be sure to follow along. I’ll post the first chapter later today.
Thank you again for your support, and I cannot wait to share this latest adventure with you.
Sincerely, Emma

Historical Spotlight:
Zheng Yi Sao - The Pirate Queen of China Who Ruled the Seas
As a reader of historical fantasy, you may be familiar with tales of brave warriors and epic battles, but have you ever heard of Zheng Yi Sao, the notorious pirate queen of China? Her story is one of adventure, cunning, and fierce determination, and it's one that deserves to be told.
Zheng Yi Sao was born in the late 1700s and lived during a time when the seas around China were infested with pirates. As a young girl, she was sold into prostitution, but she quickly rose through the ranks and became a respected and feared leader of a pirate fleet. When her husband, the former leader of the fleet, died, Zheng Yi Sao took control and became the pirate queen.
Under her leadership, the pirate fleet grew to over 300 ships and tens of thousands of pirates. Zheng Yi Sao was a shrewd leader who knew how to maintain discipline and keep her crew in line. She instituted a strict code of conduct that forbade theft from the poor and the abuse of female captives.
One of the most impressive feats of Zheng Yi Sao's reign was her successful negotiation with the Chinese government. In 1808, she struck a deal with the Qing Dynasty, which allowed her to retire with her fortune and keep her ships. This was a remarkable achievement for a pirate, let alone a woman in a male-dominated society.
The story of Zheng Yi Sao is not just one of piracy and adventure, but also of love and family. She had several husbands and was a mother to several children, whom she raised on her pirate ship. She even adopted some of her husband's mistresses and treated them like her own children.
Zheng Yi Sao's story has captured the imaginations of many, inspiring books, movies, and TV shows. She was a true warrior and a trailblazer who defied gender norms and made a name for herself in a world dominated by men. Her legacy lives on today, as a symbol of strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
In conclusion, Zheng Yi Sao's life is an incredible tale of adventure and bravery that deserves to be remembered. As readers of historical fantasy, we can draw inspiration from her strength and determination and use it to fuel our own adventures. Zheng Yi Sao's story reminds us that anything is possible if we have the courage to pursue our dreams and never give up.
