Greetings and salutations,
This is us as we ventured out into one of our lovely, long autumn evenings to have an ice cream in town and a walk along the stunning Yeppoon beach, looking out at the islands. We were also lucky to have with us Samuel’s beautiful girlfriend - she’s at the far end with the long, brown hair!
The Crew!
The islands look distant and hazy in the twilight but sometimes, on clear days, they look so close that you feel as if you could reach out and touch them.

Reviews for The Raven’s Call are coming in which is encouraging and exciting. Currently, there are 11 on Amazon and 18 on Goodreads. I’m running some Amazon ads and have joined some book promotions etc. but I have to confess that social media is so time-consuming and fiddly that I infinitely prefer to write than post…Lucky I’ve got you guys!
Marina Costa’s wonderful foreword has been enjoyed by a number of readers. Others are enjoying the female supportive relationships, the unusual setting of the story as well as the adventure, intrigue and the subtle embers between Rayl and Galti Khan.
Meanwhile, my 13-year-old daughter is reading Rise of the Earthborn for the seventh time…I’m not even kidding!
This series is definitely her favourite. She says that it is easy to read and very interesting and exciting. She is begging me to write the fourth book.
However, I’ve been working on a modern YA novel which is supposed to be about mermaids, the ocean and the mysterious volcanic plugs around here and I’m suffering from cognitive dissonance as I prefer low fantasy/magical realism - stories set in fantastical or historical settings with mostly low to no magic. I’m a bit torn about this story but it’s been kicking around for a few years now, wanting to be told.
This week I’ve put that aside and am back working on the sequel to The Raven’s Call. I have 50k words down so far and have worked out the conclusion!
Uh oh, I can hear some distress calls outside. It sounds like one of our green frogs under threat from a snake…I know it’s Nature but I will go and see if I can help it anyway.
I couldn’t see the frog and it stopped calling, so I hope it got away! The one above doesn’t look quite real, but it actually is. This is from a few years ago, on my front deck and my youngest daughter thought the frog needed some shade, hence the very bright fake flower.
I wish you all the best for May.

Love your daughters’s and your love of frogs. And yes they do get eaten and that is also life. Looking forward to both mermaids and sequels. For us spring is here which includes assorted fruit trees in bloom. The cherries are done and now the peaches blossoms are stunning
Sounds great
