DAUGHTER OF THE WOLFHEAD Review copy now live:
I’ve outrun my book budget for this month (already!) and if you would like to read my book, Daughter of the Wolfhead, but are in the same boat as me, then you can read it at the link above. It is a review copy however, if leaving a review (and becoming an author’s favourite person in the whole world) is daunting, you may read it without leaving a review and I can’t do a thing about it ;).
It’s September already and I can’t believe how fast this year is passing. Have you ever heard of a hair archaeologist? I hadn’t and enjoyed learning about Janet Stephens and her passion for hair in history.
Janet Stephens: Unveiling Ancient Haircraft
Janet Stephens, a hairdresser by day and an amateur archaeologist by night, resurrects ancient Roman hairstyles (such as the one worn by Empress Plotina above) in her Baltimore home. Beyond her work in the salon, Janet delves into history's tresses, meticulously recreating the intricate updos of empresses and noblewomen. Combining her hairstyling skills with archaeological curiosity, she challenges prevailing beliefs that the elaborate hairstyles depicted in sculptures were artistic flights of fancy. Through exhaustive research and hands-on experimentation, Janet proposes a revolutionary theory—the intricate styles were sewn into place, not pinned. Her meticulous recreations, shared on YouTube, illuminate the past with authenticity. Janet Stephens stands as a modern weaver of historical elegance, breathing life into forgotten trends and offering a tangible link to the beauty of antiquity.

Books To Read
There are some pretty cool looking books in the Fall Fantasy Giveaway.
The Calm Before the Storm
I couldn’t get this banner to load, no matter how many times I tried. So I went to Canva and created my own as close to the organiser’s image as I could. Blackout Trail by Linda Naughton caught my eye on this list and the first several pages are interesting.
Books Love Reviews
Cottonwood Wind (with a very cute appaloosa foal on the front) looks good in this list of books.
Cleanish Adventures
A lot of interesting books to check out in this one.
Women of Fantasy and SciFi
Many books to explore here.
Thrilling Reads
I didn’t find anything that matched my tastes here, apart from my own books :) but you might!
Den of Spies: I read most of the free sample on Amazon and was gripped by the story. This book is on my list for next month’s book budget.
Wedding of the Torn Rose:
As torn petals of a rose fall, a hero must rise in a race against destiny.
What starts as a fairy tale rescue spirals into an intricate web of dark fantasy laced with intrigue and magic. After the downtrodden merchant Kaine saves the runaway Princess Lydia from an unexpected monster, he feels inexplicably drawn to her. Lydia’s uncanny knowledge of his deepest secrets looms over him, suggesting she knows more about him than he has revealed.
However, there is little time to investigate this mystery. The princess is betrothed to the magic wielding Throatian Kingdom, and Lydia’s father has rewarded Kaine with a job offer he cannot refuse.
Fierce - I’ve finished the 1st draft. Yes!! It stands at 118, 572 words which some may think is way too long. Perhaps I’m in for some trimming. Read the next chapter here or click on the image below.
Have a great day.
