There’s something about historical dramas that completely pulls me in - the battles, the intrigue, the larger-than-life heroes. But what I love most is when they tell a gripping story without relying on unnecessary shock value.
That’s why I’ve been drawn to Turkish historical dramas like Destan and Diriliş: Ertuğrul. They remind me of Vikings and The Last Kingdom, but with a key difference: they focus on adventure, loyalty, and epic storytelling without adding nudity or explicit content. And honestly, that makes the story so much stronger.
These kinds of narratives inspired my upcoming book, a historical adventure fantasy about a warrior woman from the Scythian era. The ancient steppe was a fierce and fascinating place, and I love imagining the untold stories that might have played out there.
Do you have a favorite historical drama? Or a book that made you feel like you were stepping into another time? I’d love to hear your recommendations!
I’m currently reading The King Over the Sea by S.E. Morgan, a vastly underrated and undiscovered pearl of a book - if you like historical fiction.
Ooh, I'll have to look for these! Good historical dramas are so hard to find!
